On November 16-18, some students from the 11th & 12th grades of CDOIC participated in a three-day, two-night hiking camp. CDOIC is an IAC (Independent Award Centre) of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, which is an enriching program that invites young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in a number of activities over a set length of time. More than 8 million teenagers in 140 different countries participate in this international award.

The purpose of the award is to provide, promote and preserve a frame work of the award via participation that equips, engages and empowers our students to explore their potential. CDOIC aims to establish and develop our student’s comprehensive qualities, including confidence, leadership, team spirit, life skills, ETC, through the Duke of Edinburgh’s international Award program.

There are three levels of the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The structure of the Award program consists of four mandatory sections: Service, Skill, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey. Last weekend, a group of our students undertook 3 days and 2 nights expedition in Meng Tun River valley as part of the Silver Award Adventurous Journey.

During the event, the students were faced with the challeng of the temperature of minus 11 degrees at night and a hike of more than 16 kilometers on paths covered in Ice and snow. Under the harsh natural conditions, they overcame many difficulties and completed all the planned goals. The Adventurous Journey is about team work and social connections between the team members who undertake the journey and also the volunteers who instruct, supervise and assess the journey.

We believe that the 3 days and 2 nights expedition is a great opportunity for our young people to engage in activities that require determination, physical effort, perseverance, problem solving and cooperation.
